Deacon Alex Guillebeaux Obituary

Though our hearts mourn, we rejoice in knowing that the Lord has received one of His angels. Deacon Alex Guillebeaux of the Porter's Drive Community in Elberton, Georgia, entered eternal glory on February 20, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital in Athens, Georgia.

Deacon Alex Guillebeaux was born on February 2, 1945, in Mount Carmel, South Carolina to Collins “Pete” Guillebeaux and Fannie (Jackson) Guillebeaux. He was one of fifteen children born to this union.

Alex’s life journey carried him from Mount Carmel to the windy city of Chicago, Illinois, where he met the love of his life. On March 3, 1975, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Miss Bernerdean Hoffman. Through this union, he gained a beautiful daughter, Paulette. From a very early age, Alex understood the importance of knowing Christ and developed a personal relationship with Him and he joined the Spring Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel, SC. Throughout his life, he leaned on and depended upon his Savior. He and his wife became devoted members of Christian Worship Assembly under the leadership of Pastor Fred Vehe, where they continued to grow closer to Christ under faithful leadership. Alex faithfully served for many years in the Deacon’s Ministry and remained a steadfast servant of the Lord.

His ministry extended beyond the church walls. Alex founded a Prison Ministry, where he faithfully prayed for, encouraged, and led many behind bars to know Christ Jesus. His compassion and dedication to sharing the goodness of God touched countless lives. Alex was a hardworking man who provided faithfully for his family. He owned and operated the Alex’s Snack Shop in Mount Carmel, SC for many years. Many would also remember him riding through the community selling fresh vegetables and fruits — always offering the goodness of God freely along the way. He loved playing checkers and the card game bid whist, never missing a chance to talk a little junk while enjoying a good game with friends.

On Friday morning, February 20, 2026, Alex answered the Master’s call. He was preceded in death by his parents Collins “Pete” and Fannie (Jackson) Guillebeaux; his daughter, Paulette (Hoffman-Guillebeaux) Duffie; his sisters Willie Mae Lewis, Elizabeth DuBose, Myrtice Anthony, Queen Guillebeaux, and Mary Guillebeaux; and his brothers Charles Guillebeaux and Moses Guillebeaux.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of fifty years, Bernerdean (Hoffman) Guillebeaux; five grandsons; one brother, James (Elease) Guillebeaux of Mount Carmel, SC; six sisters, Sallie Richardson and Juanita Brown both of Mount Carmel, SC; Kitty Cooper, Rosa Guillebeaux, and Gloria Green all of Chicago, IL; and Isadora (Randy) Roebuck of Stone Mountain, GA; an adopted daughter, Afrika Hurley of Athens, GA; a special friend, Rev. Bettie Oglesby of Hartwell, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and his beloved Christian Worship Assembly Church family.
